A new Cultural Strategy setting out a long-term vision for Castle Point's cultural and creative future was approved by Cabinet on 16 September.

‘Fresh Horizons’ builds on the Borough's unique character by celebrating its heritage, supporting local creativity and helping more people take part in cultural activities.

Developed with input from residents, community organisations, businesses and creative practitioners, it provides a framework for strengthening culture across the Borough, recognising its role in bringing communities together, supporting wellbeing, creating opportunities and fostering pride in place.

Castle Point is home to a rich mix of heritage assets, community groups, creative talent and natural landscapes. The approach seeks to build on these strengths by creating more opportunities for residents of all ages to engage with culture, supporting local organisations and helping to attract investment.

Six priorities have been identified, including supporting creative skills, improving access to cultural spaces, growing audiences, developing cultural leadership and celebrating the stories that make Castle Point unique.

Councillor Tom Gibson, Portfolio Holder for Special Projects and Assets, said: "Castle Point has a strong sense of identity and a rich history that means a great deal to the people who live here. From our maritime heritage and historic landmarks to the creativity and community spirit found across the Borough, we have a great deal to celebrate.

"This is about recognising those strengths and creating opportunities for more people to enjoy, take part in and shape cultural activity in their local area. It provides a clear vision for how we can support creativity, celebrate our heritage and build on what makes Castle Point special.

"Whether it's our local history, community events, arts groups or the many volunteers who help bring people together, culture is already thriving in Castle Point. By working together, we can build on that success and ensure even more people benefit in the years ahead."
