Armistice & Remembrance Services 2024
There will be several events and services for Remembrance Day and Armistice Day across the Borough. Find information on each service and what it will entail below.
Remembrance Day - Sunday, 10th November
South Benfleet
Service at St. Mary's Parish Church. Arrival by 9.30am, the service will start at 9.45am. The service is followed by the outside service of remembrance at the war memorial, which will start at approximately 10.55am and will include the 2 minutes silence at 11.00am. After which there will be an opportunity to lay wreaths.
The Service will be attended by The Mayor of Castle Point, Councillor Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert and Chief Executive, Angela Hutchings.

Canvey Island
Royal British Legion Remembrance Service at the Paddocks Community Centre, Canvey Island, conducted by Revd. Marion Walford, including observance of the 2 minutes silence. The service will be held outside in the grounds of the Paddocks and will commence at 10.40 am, gather from 10.20 am. Please dress appropriately for the weather.Please also be advised there is no reserved seating, except for dignitaries.
After the service there will be the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial. The Procession will then Parade down to the Royal British Legion, Denham Road, Canvey Island SS8 9HB.
The event will be attended by The Deputy Mayor of Castle Point, Councillor Barry Campagna, The Leader of the Council, Councillor David Blackwell, along with Council Assistant Director, Shane Williams.
Hadleigh
Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance in St. James’ The Less Parish Church conducted by Revd. Pete Hillman. Arrival from 10.30am for the service at 10.50am and 2 minutes silence at 11.00amwill be observed.
The service will end 11.45am approximately, please then make your way to the War Memorial (walking on the footpath) for a short service and laying of wreaths at 12 noon.
The event will be attended by The Deputy Leader of the Council,Councillor Warren Gibson and Council Director, Caroline Adlem.
Thundersley
Service at St Peter's Church, Thundersley, please arrive by 10.40am for 10.50am start. Revd. Andrew Hudson will lead the service. 2 minutes silence will be observed at 11.00 am. There will be anopportunity to lay wreaths during the service.
The service will be attended by Cabinet Member Councillor Steven Mountford and Council Assistant Director, Janette Parker-East.
Armistice Day – Monday, 11th November
The Salvation Army Temple
Service at the Salvation Army Temple, which will be held on the forecourt of The Salvation Army Hall, London Road, Hadleigh. Arrival from 10.30am for 10.45am start. The service will be led by Salvation Army Corps Leader, Major Mark Cozens, along with Revd. Mike Kettley, and will include a hymn, prayers, last post and reveille and the 2 minutes silence. Tea and coffee will be served in the foyer of the hall afterwards.
The service will be attended by The Mayor of Castle Point, Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert.
Thundersley Village
Service in Thundersley Village. Revd. Andrew Hudson will lead a short act of remembrance at the War Memorial . Please gather by 10.40am for 10.50am start. 2 minutes silence will be observed at11am and there will be an opportunity to lay wreaths.
The Service will be attended by Deputy Mayor of Castle Point, Councillor Barry Campagna.
