Council announces acquisition of Abbeyfield building

Cllr Rob Lillis, Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing & Housing recently commented on the building being acquired, stating:

“The Council is pleased to confirm that, following completion of due diligence, it has now acquired ‘Abbeyfield’ in Chapel Lane, Hadleigh for the purpose of providing much needed temporary accommodation for residents on its housing register.

“The Council will now apply for the relevant planning permission, and subject to approval, undertake remodelling and refurbishment works. 

“The Council anticipates the works to be completed and the building in use by Spring 2026.”

 

Cllr Tom Gibson, Portfolio Holder for Special Projects & Assets said:

"I'm delighted that we've now got this purchase over the line and can now make progress at pace on this new temporary accommodation provision which will bring fantastic enhancements to the service we offer our residents.

“I'm confident that this will be a massive boost to the whole community and, of course, we will remain true to our commitment to keep residents engaged with the process along the way.
