Council approves purchase of local building for new temporary accommodation
On Tuesday, 13 August, Castle Point Borough Council’s Cabinet discussed and approved plans to purchase the formerly privately owned Abbeyfield House sheltered housing scheme in Chapel Lane, Hadleigh. Once remodelled and renovated, the building will house residents of the Borough in need of temporary accommodation.
Councillor Rob Lillis, Portfolio Holder for Health, Wellbeing & Housing, said: "This increases our ability to provide temporary accommodation within the Borough to support local households, ensuring they can stay in or close to their communities and support networks, and in the case of families, educational settings.”
Councillor Tom Gibson, Portfolio Holder for Special Projects & Assets, added: "The acquisition of this valuable local asset represents a sound investment for our Council, and will reduce our costs while improving the quality of the service offered by the Council to its residents.”
The Council has published a set of FAQs about the purchase, available to view here: Abbeyfield House FAQs [pdf] 105KB
It is anticipated that households requiring temporary accommodation will move into the building by Spring 2025.
