Council responds to proposed Government planning changes

On Wednesday 17 July 2024, Castle Point Borough Council's (CPBC's) Full Council gave the go-ahead to begin consultation on the Issues and Options phase of creating the Castle Point Plan, asking every person who lives or works in Castle Point to help shape how it grows in the coming decades.

On Tuesday 30 July 2024, Angela Raynor, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, announced new plans for changes to the National Planning Policy Framework which would, if confirmed, result in a significant increase in housing targets.

The Government's consultation into its proposed changes runs until Tuesday 24 September 2024, eight days after CPBC's Issues and Options consultation closes.

Cllr Warren Gibson, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Strategic Planning, said: "It's more important than ever that residents take the opportunity to submit their views on CPBC's Issues and Options document. We will then be in a strong position to ensure that our response to the Government's proposed changes reflects resident feedback.

"At the moment, the Government's proposed changes are draft, and they may change. Members will work closely with Officers to ensure a robust and thorough response, fuelled by significant insight into the thoughts of our residents.

"Once more, I urge you all to take the time to comment on the CPBC Issues and Options document via the portal on our website - only then can we ensure your views are represented to Government."

Residents can have their say on the proposed CPBC Issues and Options document at www.castlepoint.gov.uk/castle-point-plan - commenting on as little or as much as they choose to.
