Mayor’s 5K Fun Run a Huge Success
Castle Point Borough Council’s first Mayor’s 5K Fun Run, held on Sunday, 20 October, was a resounding success, raising a fantastic £755 for the Yellow Door Charity.
On the crisp autumn morning, 97 runners gathered at Waterside Farm Leisure Centre to take part in the event. The Mayor of Castle Point, Cllr Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert, kicked off the proceedings with a heartfelt speech, thanking everyone for their participation and support.
The 5K course took runners on two laps of a scenic route. As the starting horn sounded at 9:15 AM, the runners set off at a steady pace, cheered on by spectators lining the course.
Cllr Tom Gibson, cabinet member for Special Projects and Assets, commented: “The event was a testament to the community spirit of Castle Point, with runners of all ages and abilities coming together for a common cause".
The Yellow Door Charity (Canvey Island Youth Project), which works with disadvantaged young people between 11 and 25 offering a range of services and activities focusing on young people’s health and well-being, will benefit greatly from the funds raised by the Mayor’s 5K Fun Run. The charity's representatives expressed their gratitude to the organisers and participants for their generosity.
Castle Point Borough Council have already announced plans to make the Mayor’s 5K Fun Run an annual event, hoping to build on the success of this year's race.
