South Essex Councils Launch New Full Fibre Network

South Essex Councils (SEC) now have a new 280km full fibre network built by ITS, providing ultrafast digital connectivity across seven local authority areas. This network supports SEC's digital goals and has already connected 250 public sector sites. It offers gigabit-capable services to around 9,000 businesses.
SEC was established in 2018, bringing together six local authorities and one county council to improve South Essex for residents, visitors, and businesses. A key goal is ensuring access to high-capacity digital infrastructure for better public services, attracting investment, and boosting the local economy.
The network project, costing about £7.5 million, was funded by several government bodies and the South East Local Enterprise Partnership. The build started in April 2020 and was completed in three phases.
Cllr Dave Blackwell, Leader of Castle Point Borough Council said: "The launch of this full fibre network marks a significant milestone in our journey towards making South Essex a leading region for digital innovation. By providing access to ultrafast, business-grade digital connectivity, we are not only enhancing public services but also paving the way for local businesses to thrive in a highly competitive digital economy. This investment underscores our commitment to creating a connected, future-ready South Essex."
Businesses can now access high-speed internet services through ITS' partners, which include local and national service providers. For more details, visit fasterbritain.com.
