The Paddocks Community Centre reopens its doors following extensive refurbishment

The Paddocks Community Centre was reopened to the public on 31 March 2025 following a £2.3 million refurbishment. Mayor of Castle Point, Cllr Lynsey McCarthy-Calvert cut the ribbon on the building marking a milestone moment in the centre's history.
The extensive renovations have transformed the community hub with essential upgrades, including a new main hall roof, electrical rewiring, high-level front windows, and state-of-the-art climate and ventilation systems. Other highlights include acoustic panels, a refurbished stage, suspended ceilings, new toilets, and dedicated office and community spaces—all designed to enhance safety, comfort, and utility.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Cllr McCarthy-Calvert said: “It is with immense pleasure that I stand before you today to celebrate the grand reopening of the Paddocks Community Centre, reborn after a transformative £2.3 million refurbishment. This investment is not just about bricks and mortar; it's about securing a vibrant hub for our community for years to come.”
Cllr Dave Blackwell, Leader of Castle Point Borough Council added: “The refurbishment extends beyond structural improvements, fostering a significant social impact through a partnership with VIY (Volunteer It Yourself) and Dulux. Fourteen local young people gained invaluable trade skills while working alongside professionals and dedicated Dulux volunteers.”
Looking ahead, there are plans for further exterior enhancements, including rendering, redecorating, fascia replacement, and window repairs. The partnership with VIY will also be extended in April to redecorate additional halls and corridors, offering further learning opportunities for young people.
The Centre is now to the community. For information about booking, email halls@castlepoint.gov.uk
