Oikos Storage Ltd are currently engaged in the preparation of an application for a Development Consent Order in respect of works to improve the operational efficiency of the existing site.
The proposed development, known as the Oikos Marine & South Side Development (OMSSD) will consist of the installation of additional marine infrastructure on two of the existing jetties, the construction of new storage tanks, extra road loading facilities and other ancillary and supporting infrastructure.
As the proposed works constitute a National Strategic Infrastructure Project, the proposal will be considered and determined by the Secretary of State for Transport.
The local Community and Local Authority are however key components of the process and a non-statutory consultation exercise, introducing the proposal, was undertaken by Oikos in 2019.
Further consultation is now proposed and Oikos placed a Notice in the Press on the 18th March 2021, advising that its Statement of Community Consultation would be available to view on the Oikos website from the 25th March 2021.
This document, which was amended following engagement with the Local Authority resulting in increased consultation on Canvey Island, sets out how consultation on the proposed development will be undertaken and will include details of the Project Exhibition which will be available to view on Oikos’ website between the 6th April and the 18th May 2021.
In order to ensure that adequate opportunity is available to all residents and businesses on Canvey to be engaged in the process, it has been agreed that a link to the Oikos website will be provided from both the Borough Council and the Town Council websites.
It should be noted however that the consultation exercise is NOT being undertaken by Castle Point Borough Council and that no details of the proposal are held by this Authority.
Any queries in respect of the consultation exercise or the proposal should be directed to Oikos via their website: https://oikos.co.uk/omssd/
