Licensing Services are responsible for licensing a wide variety of premises and activities.
The legislation provides a clear focus on the promotion of four stautory objectives against which applications are determined.
The licensing objectives are:
- The prevention of crime and disorder
- Public safety
- The prevention of public nuisance
- The protection of children from harm
The determination of whether to grant licences or not is in most cases supported by the views of various professionals, statutory bodies including Health and Safety officers, Essex Police, Essex Fire and Rescue Services and Child Protection Board. In some instances, the public may also make representations in respect of the grant of a licence.
