Welcoming our new Mayor and Deputy Mayor for 2026/27

Following Annual Council's Mayor-making ceremony on 20 May, Castle Point Borough Council has elected a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

During the ceremony, Councillor Kate Knott was inaugurated as the First Citizen of the Borough, taking office as The Worshipful Mayor of Castle Point for the 2026/27 municipal year. Councillor Knott will be supported by her husband, Councillor John Knott, who will serve as her Consort.

Councillor Knott represents Hadleigh, St James Ward.

The Mayor will also be supported by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Michael Dearson, who represents Tarpots Ward.

The Mayor looks forward to supporting businesses and organisations across the borough, celebrating their achievements, and recognising the valuable contributions made within our community. We are also proud to have an active Youth Council.

The Mayor is pleased to support STRM Support – Send the Right Message and The For Isla Foundation as her chosen charities during her term of office.

Invite the mayor to attend an event


If the Mayor is unable to attend an event, invitations will be extended to the Deputy Mayor, who may attend on her behalf.  

Reverend Mark Smeed has been appointed as Councillor Knott's Chaplain for the mayoral year.
