Statement on Covid-19 Grant Funding
Angela Hutchings, Chief Executive, said “During the pandemic, the Council distributed Government grant funding and made payments to businesses in line with the relevant guidance at the time. The Government has since confirmed that the deadline for the Council to submit claims for reimbursement has passed and some of the monies which the Council has paid out are no longer recoverable.
“Cabinet Members have been briefed on this issue and the matter has been brought to the attention of the Council’s external auditors (EY). An investigation is ongoing, so I am unable to provide further comment until the investigation is complete. A further update will be provided to the Audit & Governance Committee in due course.
“The Council’s General Reserve remains sufficient to manage the financial impact which was fully mitigated in the 2024/25 draft accounts.”
