Young people in Castle Point are taking the lead in creating new opportunities for their peers, thanks to a weekly youth club set up and run by the Youth Council at the Home Hub.

The project has been developed and delivered by Youth Council members using a portion of the budget allocated to them to support youth led activities. With support, young people have been able to design, organise and run sessions that reflect what their age group need most – from social activities and creative projects to safe spaces to talk and connect.

To celebrate their success and see the club in action, Councillors Warren Gibson and Lynsey McCarthy attended a session.

Cllr Warren Gibson, Deputy Leader of Castle Point Borough Council said: “This is a fantastic example of what young people can achieve when they’re trusted with the space and resources to shape their own ideas. The Youth Council has shown real leadership in creating something that supports and connects young people in our community.”

Members of Castle Point Youth Council said:

•    “Connect4 is a safe space for all and it definitely helps people make friends and get out more often.”
•    “It is an amazing place for young people in the community to go to and build connections. It is run by the Castle Point Youth Council who are very dedicated to helping the community.”
•    “It is a positive, thriving, enjoyable environment where there is always something for everyone. From sports, to gaming to crafts, the Connect4 Youth Club opens opportunities to make new friends and have fun.”

The weekly youth club is open to all young people looking for a friendly, welcoming space. For more information email youthcouncil@castlepoint.gov.uk
