Replacement Vehicles

Replacement of your taxi or private hire vehicle licence if your current car cannot be used (e.g. in the event of accident or mechanical failure)

If you can no longer use your vehicle because it has been involved in an accident or has broken down you can apply to have your licence transferred to another vehicle either temporarily or permanently.

Before you apply

Contact the Licensing team licensing@castlepoint.gov.uk and tell them about the accident or damage to your licensed vehicle. You must do this within 72 hours in accordance with your licence conditions. Advise the Licensing Team that you would like to transfer your licence at the earliest possible occasion and whether your intention is for a temporary or permanent transfer. It may be that your insurance company are dealing with the replacement, please let the Licensing Team know this and provide our contact details so we are able to liaise directly with them.

Please be aware that it is an extremely busy service, you may not get a response on the same day that you phone or e-mail and it is unlikely you will be dealt with on the same day. Our business hours are Monday-Thursday 08:45-17:15 and Friday 08:45-16:45.
